Qu'ranic Quotes
Nitin Anand
24 years after Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) passed away his teaching were searched for and collected through every place that he travelled. All of the scribes and followers of Mohammed gathered and wrote down all the teaching that were collected into a single source, the modern day Koran/Qu'ran. These teachings were then turned into a book format which still exists today. The hadiths, sunnahs, and shariah law actually evolved over time but below the passages from the Qu'ran are discussed.
"surah 17: 110: Say Call upon Allah or call upon Al Rahman: BY WHATEVER NAME YE CALL UPON HIM IT IS WELL. For him belong the MOST BEAUTIFUL NAMES. Neither speak thy prayer alound, nor speak it in low tone, but seek a middle course between."
One of my favorite surahs from the holy book. It clearly says you can call God by many names. Not only that but being steadfast in prayer but not extremist about it.
"surah 39: 18: Those who listen to the word and follow the best (meaning) in it Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, and those are the ones endued with understanding."
LOOK, look towards the BEST meaning. This, along with the passage below mean that one should meditate on the teachings and come to realize for themself what it means. People have been given intellect by God and they should use it.
"surah 38: 29: (Here is) a book which we have sent down unto thee, full of blessings that they may meditate on its Signs, and that Men of Understanding may receive admonition."
Meditation is also recommended in the Qu'ran. As the old saying goes "He only is wise who devotes himself to realizing, not reading only, the ancient revelations." One should ponder and realize what and why these passages are written and were spoken.
"surah 2: 256: Let there be NO COMPLUSION in religion: Truth stands out clear from error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy handholds, that never breaks."
A great surah that shows tolerance and following the median path.
"surah 5: 69: Those who believe and those who follow the Jewish scriptures and the sabians and the christians any who believe in Allah and the last day and work righteousness on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve"
Looks like the various people from different groups will do okay as long as their good and believe in God.
"surah 109: Say o ye that reject faith I worship not that which ye worship nor will ye worship that which I worship and I will not worship that which ye have been wont to worship nor will ye worship that which I worship To you be your way and to me mine"
Here it says that if someone doesn't have faith then let them know that you worship something else and let them go down their path and you down yours. In the end only God judges.
"surah 4: 125: Who can be better in religion than one who submits his whole self to Allah, does good, and follows the way of abrahmin the true in faith? For Allah did take abrahmin for a friend."
For Muslims, Islam means submission to God and for Hindus Bhakti means submission to God. The ideas behind it are the same and for the most part they are practiced in a similar fashion. One must note that it is God who can judge people's faith and not mankind. Often times this submission is mistaken to mean being part of a culture that believes a certain way rather than actually having complete faith and devotion in God. People tend to judge by looks, what they see as beliefs, but in the end that is for God.
"surah 29: 69: And those who strive in our cause we will certainly guide them to OUR PATHS for verily Allah is with those who do right"
Says there are different paths to one God, one Truth.
"surah 60: 8: Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing with them kindly and justly, with them: for Allah loveth who are just."
Meaning basically that you don't have to fight people who aren't fighting you however fighting in defense is your duty. If in fact you treat people with kindness and justness then God loves you for it. "surah 43: 22: Nay! they say: We have found our fathers following certain religion, and we do guide ourselves by their footsteps."
Modern day people use this same excuse. People are often times scared of culture or have tunnel vision so don't see that they are making the same mistakes the older generations did.
"surah 42: 13: The same religion has he established for you as that which he enjoined on Noah - ... Steadfast in Religion, and make no divisions therein: To those those who worship other things than Allah (aka GOD), hard is the (way) to which thou callest them..."
"surah 30: 32: Those who split up their religion, and become sects- each party rejoicing in that which is with itself!"
Both Surah 42 and 30 are important because they clearly show that people should live as one and love God together. Creating various divisions like Sunni, Shi'ite, Ahmediya, Sufi, Wahabi, Muslim, Jain, Hindu, Christian, Catholic, etc. isn't good but if you understand that they are all truly one it can over come the bias and realize your fellow man is actually on the same path, a path to God.
"surah 41: 35: And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise Patience and self-restraint. None but persons of the greatest good fortune."
PATIENCE and SELF-RESTRAINT... good characteristics.
"surah 41: 33: Who is better in speech than one who calls to Allah, works righteousness, and says "I am of those who bow in submission"
Living a good and faithful life is what Allah likes. ISLAM is not a culture but it should be islam=submission. Many translate this to mean that people who bow in "Islam" the culture rather than "islam" the act of submission.
"surah 38: 26: ....Nor follow thou the LUSTS (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path."
Similar to the concept of not letting Maya, the illusion cloud you. You should follow a faithful path and not let greed, lust, or the other deadly sins overcome you.
"surah 33: 1: O Prophet! Fear Allah and hearken not to the Unbelievers and the Hypocrites, verily Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom"
This is a very good passage. People should think about God and fear him... they shouldn't fear and cave into pressure brought about athiests or hypocrites.
Also regular prayer, charity, and assurance of the hereafter are mentioned throughout as on surah 31: 4.
"surah 29: 25: And he said: For you ye have taken (for worship) IDOLS besides Allah..."
Is Allah an Idol? What is important is the concept and faith.
"surah 27: 64: Or, who originated Creation the repeats it"
Creation is repeated over and over again... circular motion, just like circling around Mecca. Did you know the Kabba stone at Mecca is black and resembles the Shivling in Hinduism? Both religions have 7 circular motions around the diety and bow their heads to it. Also note that Islam has a crescent moon as one of it's symbols. The crescent moon is also worn on the head of Shiva.
PLUS there is Ramazan. If you've studied anthropological linguistics you'll see how z and j are interchanged bewteen sanskrit/hindi and arabic/urdu so Ramazan is Ramajan whish is "Rama" (God) and "Jan" life... ie: Hare Rama. (I mention this to show a link and similarities in rituals between the religions.)
"surah 4: 21: The Hypocrites- they think they are over-reaching Allah but he will over-reach them: when they stand up to prayer, they stand without earnestness, to be seen of men, but little do they hold Allah in rememberance"
Today many people are fearful of culture rather than Allah. They would rather be like sheep and be lead astray than think about anything. It is the case around the world. Many go to Church and say they believe but in reality they go only to show off their riches or to be a part of culture and miss the real meanings behind every ritual.
I will be updating this page as the days progress.
